Not Just Better Speaking: How My Son Learned to Express What He Really Thinks
Parent: Deepak Bansal, Father of Yash (Age 10), Gurgaon
For the longest time, I believed my son Yash was just “not expressive.”
He wasn’t shy exactly. He would play, laugh, and talk normally at home. But whenever it came to explaining something properly — in school, with relatives, or even during simple conversations — he would struggle.
He’d start a sentence and leave it halfway. Or jump from one idea to another without completing anything. Sometimes, he’d just say, “I don’t know,” even when I was sure he did.
At first, I thought it was a language issue. Then I thought maybe it was confidence.
But over time, I realized it was something else — he didn’t know how to organize his thoughts.
That’s when I started looking for communication skills classes for kids, and PlanetSpark came up multiple times. After going through a few PlanetSpark reviews, we decided to give it a try.
Honestly, I didn’t expect much in the beginning.
The first few classes were quite simple. The teacher didn’t jump into advanced speaking or presentations. Instead, she focused on basic expression.
Small activities like:
“Describe your favorite game.”
“Tell me what you did yesterday.”
“Explain why you like something.”
At first, Yash gave scattered answers. He would mix things up, forget points, or go off-topic.
But what I liked was how the teacher handled it.
She didn’t interrupt him midway. She listened, and then helped him restructure what he said.
“Okay, that’s a good idea. Let’s say it again — but step by step.”
That approach made a difference.
Instead of feeling corrected, he felt guided.
Over the next few weeks, I noticed subtle changes.
He started completing his sentences. Then he began adding reasons to his answers. Slowly, his thoughts became clearer.
One moment I clearly remember — we were sitting at dinner, and I casually asked him why he liked his new teacher.
Earlier, he would have said something like, “She’s nice.”
This time, he said, “She explains slowly, and she doesn’t get angry if someone asks again. That’s why I like her.”
That was new.
Not just speaking — explaining.
Another change I noticed was in his schoolwork. His answers became more structured. Even his teachers mentioned that he had started participating more in class discussions.
He still makes mistakes. He still pauses sometimes. But now he doesn’t give up midway.
He tries again.
And that, for me, is real progress.
PlanetSpark didn’t make him a perfect speaker. It helped him become a clearer thinker and a better communicator.
There’s a difference.
A child who memorizes can answer.
But a child who understands can explain.
And today, Yash is slowly becoming that child.
