A Haiku is a 3-line poem, and this first, second and third line contains 5, 7, and 5 syllables, respectively. A limerick is a humorous poem consisting of 5 lines. The first two lines are longer (7-10 syllables), the following two lines are smaller (5-7 syllables), and one closing line (7-10 syllables).

The first step to poetry writing is reading a lot of poetry. Listening to poetry recitations is also helpful in learning poetry writing. Initially, start writing a small poem of 2-4 lines. Try using tools like a rhyming dictionary for poetry writing. Once comfortable in writing freely, enhance the poetry by adding the features of poetry.
