Introduction

The Depletion of Ozone Layer

The depletion of the ozone layer is a serious global issue. The ozone layer is crucial for life on earth. It protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun.

People and plants cannot survive without the protective ozone layer. Ozone layer depletion causes health issues like skin cancer, weak eyesight, rapid ageing, and a weak immune system. The harmful ultraviolet rays also damage plants and impact animals' health.

Increased exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays also impacts marine life. Hence, it impacts the entire food chain cycle.

Increasing halocarbon and chlorofluorocarbons are responsible for ozone layer depletion. The only solution is to lessen the use of ozone-depleting substances and chemicals.

In order to spread awareness about ozone layer depletion, 16th of September is observed as World Ozone Day. Everyone can contribute by using natural and biodegradable products as all types of pollution cause depletion of the ozone layer and global warming.

How Can We Prevent Depletion Of Ozone Layer?

The Depletion of Ozone Layer

We should take the following steps to prevent depletion of the ozone layer:-

  1. Farmers should do organic farming and not use pesticides.

  2. Less use of vehicles as they cause air pollution; we should walk to nearby places and can also use a bicycle.

  3. Use biodegradable products at home.

  4. Stop using polythene as it causes pollution and increases global warming.

  5. Air conditioners and refrigerators should be well maintained. Their regular servicing can stop the release of harmful chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons.

  6. Do not use cosmetics and cleaning products containing ozone-depleting gases and chemicals; always use eco-friendly products.

  7. Use public transport like buses, metros and trains whenever possible.

Depletion of the ozone layer, global warming and climate change are connected. The primary reason for all the issues is pollution caused by human beings.

We should spread more awareness about pollution. Take part in World Ozone Day awareness campaigns every year. If we do not act now, it will be too late. It will be impossible to recover once the ozone layer is completely damaged.

Once ozone holes are created, both humans and animals will suffer from critical diseases. Global warming will increase, leading to extreme temperatures, making it extremely difficult to live on earth. We should not let that happen and become responsible human beings.

We should avoid things that cause pollution, save water, and use eco-friendly products. We must use public transport more instead of cars and walk whenever possible. This way, we can contribute to saving our earth.
