How to Spark It

Why I Joined PlanetSpark as an Adult — And How It Changed My Confidence at Work

I didn’t join PlanetSpark for my child.

I joined it for myself.

And honestly, even typing that feels strange—because somewhere along the way, we start believing that platforms like this are “for kids,” not for adults who are already working, already managing responsibilities, already supposed to “have it together.”

But the truth is… I didn’t have it together.

At least not when it came to speaking.

I’ve always been someone who knew what to say… just not how to say it.

In my head, things were clear. Structured. Logical.

But the moment I had to speak in a meeting, something shifted.

I’d either:

  • Over-explain and lose my point
  • Speak too fast and fumble
  • Or worse… stay quiet and let the moment pass

And then came that familiar regret after every meeting:

“I should have said something.”

What made it worse was that I wasn’t inexperienced.

I knew my work. I had ideas. I had opinions.

But confidence? That didn’t show up when I needed it.

Especially in situations like:

  • Team discussions
  • Client calls
  • Presentations where everyone else seemed… effortless

I remember once preparing for a presentation for two whole days.

Slides? Perfect.
Content? Solid.

But when I started speaking, I could literally feel my voice shaking.

Not visibly, maybe. But enough for me to notice.

And once you notice it… it’s hard to ignore.

Joining PlanetSpark wasn’t some well-thought-out decision.

It was more like…

“I need to fix this.”

I didn’t want to keep avoiding speaking opportunities.
I didn’t want to keep doubting myself after every meeting.

So I signed up.

Half-expecting it to feel childish.
Half-expecting it to not work.

The first few sessions were… uncomfortable.

Not because of the platform, but because I wasn’t used to being in that position.

Being corrected.
Being observed.
Actually thinking about how I speak.

As adults, we rarely pause and ask:
“Wait… how am I communicating?”

We just assume we’re doing fine.

One thing I noticed early on was this:

Nobody was trying to “fix” my personality.

There was no pressure to become louder, more dramatic, or overly expressive.

Instead, the focus was on:

  • clarity
  • structure
  • presence

Which, for me, felt… practical.

There was this one exercise where I had to explain a simple topic.

Nothing complex.

And yet, halfway through, I lost my flow.

Not because I didn’t know the topic.

But because I didn’t know how to organize my thoughts while speaking.

That realization stayed with me.

Because that’s exactly what was happening at work too.

Slowly, things started changing.

Not dramatically. Not overnight.

But in small, noticeable ways.

I remember the first time I interrupted someone in a meeting.

Not in a rude way. Just… confidently adding a point.

Earlier, I would have waited.
Then overthought it.
Then said nothing.

But this time, I spoke.

And the world didn’t end.

No one judged me.
No one shut me down.

In fact, someone said, “That’s a good point.”

That sentence stayed with me longer than it should have.

Another shift I noticed was in how I presented ideas.

Earlier, I used to:

  • start vaguely
  • circle around the point
  • take too long to get there

Now, I naturally started:

  • getting to the point faster
  • structuring my thoughts mid-speech
  • sounding… clearer

Not perfect. Just clearer.

The biggest difference, though, wasn’t in how others saw me.

It was in how I saw myself.

I stopped assuming:
“I’m not good at speaking.”

And started thinking:
“I just needed the right way to practice.”

Work started feeling different.

Meetings weren’t something I had to “get through.”

They became spaces where I could actually contribute.

I started volunteering for small presentations.
Then slightly bigger ones.

Not because I suddenly became super confident.

But because I was no longer avoiding it.

If I’m being completely honest—

PlanetSpark didn’t transform me into some ultra-confident speaker who dominates every room.

That’s not me.

But it did something more useful.

It made me:

  • more aware of how I communicate
  • more intentional with my words
  • less afraid of being heard

And that combination?

That’s powerful.

I still have moments where I overthink.

I still have days where I feel like I could have spoken better.

But the difference is—

I don’t stay silent anymore.

If you’re an adult reading this and thinking:

“Maybe it’s too late for me to work on this…”

It’s not.

Because confidence in speaking isn’t something you’re born with or without.

It’s something you build.

Slowly. Awkwardly. Honestly.

Just like I did.

And maybe the biggest takeaway for me was this:

It wasn’t about becoming a different person.

It was about finally being able to express the person I already was.
