You get on the bus and find a four-piece jazz band giving a concert. What do you do?

“I am late for school” is my first thought when I see the time on the bedside clock after waking up. Usually, it takes me 30 minutes to get ready, but it takes me only 10 minutes today. Surprisingly, my mother didn’t wake me up today! The smell of breakfast wafts through the kitchen into my room, and I hurry downstairs. Surprisingly, even my father doesn’t say anything to me and asks me to eat my breakfast slowly!

Okay!

After breakfast, I run to the bus stop to catch the bus due in less than one minute. The bus which arrives at 07:30 is always full to the brim. I look around and find the bus stop empty. “Odd,” I think to myself. The bus comes, and I show my student ID to the driver and hop on.

“It is empty.”

Except for an old lady and four men. Suddenly, music filled my ear as I focused and found the four men playing music on the bus!

It was soft and soothing. There was a saxophone I recognized, another guitar looking instrument, though heavier, along with two other instruments which I did not recognize. “I am not good at it. But that won’t stop me from enjoying it.”

For the next 10 minutes, I hear them play some of the best music I have ever heard. When they stop, they look at me at once and smile. I smile back and get up from my seat to talk with them.

“Hi, I am Emma. Your music is amazing.”

They smile and introduce themselves;

“Hello, I am Wayne Shorter.”

“I am Ron Carter.”

“It is nice to meet you. Call me Herb Hancock.”

“Tony Williams. Hi. We are from a little jazz band.”

“I can not remember now, but I have heard their names somewhere”,- I think to myself.

They smile mischievously at me, and I think they can hear what I am thinking. Ron asks me whether I would like to play his saxophone. I eagerly agree as I have always wanted to try playing one. I get up to take it from his hand, and suddenly the bus lurches forward, throwing me off balance.

I jerk to an upright position.

I am no longer on the bus.

I am not ready for school.

I am still in my bed.

I look at the time and realise that I am late for school.

I never rode the bus with the little jazz band.

I suddenly remember where I heard the names of the men in my dream.

I ran to my computer and there they were. Davis Miles Quintet. One of my favourites.

Mother yells at me for getting late, and I run to get ready as the Quintet plays in the background with a smile on their faces.
