How do you contribute to the health of your family?

My father always reminds me that we can have money and buy good things in life. But we can never enjoy them or be happy if we do not have good health. I have always acted on his wise words and have tried to live a healthy life. Young adults can play an active role in taking care of family, while children can contribute by following the good advice of the elders. Here is how I do it to keep my loved ones healthy.

Food

My mother is a working woman and likes to order food from outside. But, my father is very health conscious. Like most teenagers, I also enjoy burgers and pizzas. But I asked my parents to dedicate days when we could eat different kinds of food. Mondays are ‘no-cook’ days. It means we are supposed to have only uncooked food for two out of three meals. We usually have a healthy breakfast, and for lunch or dinner, we have salads and fruits and milk-based food such as shakes and buttermilk. Wednesdays, at our home, are green days. We are supposed to eat only green food. My mother makes dishes with spinach, coriander, and green vegetables. We order takeaway only on weekends. We try to avoid bread-based food, including burgers and pizzas.

Hygiene

All members of the family need to maintain hygiene. If one of us is unwell, we can also make others sick. I do my part in staying clean. I do not miss my daily bath. When I change clothes, I always put them in the laundry basket. If I find that something in the house is unclean, I tell my parents. I help my mother fill up dispenser bottles of hand wash, so we can always keep our hands germ-free before having food or after using the bathroom. If we have guests, I also bring the sanitizer bottles to help them disinfect their hands.

Cleanliness

I keep my surroundings clean and do not litter trash around the house. I put used tissues and dry trash in the dustbins that have been placed in all bedrooms in our house. When I have fruit, like a banana, I throw the peel in the dustbin in the kitchen. Our house helps collect all the trash and gives it to the garbage truck that comes to our society every morning.

To maintain good health in the family, every member plays an important role. Making healthy habits a part of our routine can create a healthy society. After all, healthy citizens make a healthy nation.
