The world may not be what it is today, not too far in the future. We already have a virtual version of this world - the metaverse. The science-fictional approach of an integrated universe, where we coexist with different species and move from one planet to the other, could also become a reality.
In the future world, where planets host a mix of species and earth is merely a stopover, we may not know the countries and continents as they exist now. As I visualise them, Asia, the USA, Africa and other regions will be known for what they offer to the ‘new world’.
What to name the USA?
In this futuristic version, the United States of America (USA) will be the best place to find the latest technology.
The USA is home to ace technology companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Cisco and Meta, and these companies are based in the Silicon Valley or the San Francisco Bay Area. The region itself is named after Silicon transistors used in modern-day microprocessors. Not only do the world’s wealthiest people live here, but it is also home to thousands of startups and companies that are born in the digital age.
The USA is also where the internet took birth. Companies organizing space travel, such as SpaceX and Amazon’s Blue Origin, are also based out of America. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) headquarters is based in Washington, DC. Some NASA scientists have already said that the United States may soon set up a ‘lunar station’ on the moon and colonize Mars. For this very reason, I would rename the USA Siliconia, the seat of technology that would drive humans into space and beyond.
In the early 20th century, the same region was known for its fruit orchards and agriculture. Then, Silicon Valley was the ‘Valley of Heart’s Delight.’
History
History reminds us that the names of the countries, that we know today, have changed. The area covered by northern Africa and southeastern Europe was the Ottoman Empire. Likewise, Iraq was a part of the Mesopotamian civilization.
How justified is the new name?
It is only natural that the region becomes synonymous with what the USA is best known for – technology, innovation, startups, and high-tech companies spearheading self-driving cars and space exploration.
It would, therefore, make sense if the USA were renamed after this very distinguishing feature. In the future, it could be called the Silicon World or Siliconia since Silicon Valley represents all that the USA has to offer to the world.
