Is it better to read the book before you watch the movie, or watch the movie before you read the book?

Many people ask whether they should read the book first and then see the movie, or the other way around. Both sides have advantages.

Start by reading the book.

If you're a voracious reader like me, you'll probably prefer to start with the book. You can visualise anything if you read the book first! You won't be able to visualise anything if you watch the movie first. The image from the movie comes to mind right away. This, in my opinion, detracts from the enjoyment of reading the book. A film forces you to see things through the director's eyes, whereas books enable us to use our imagination. Furthermore, you are less inclined to read the book after seeing the movie. The parts of the book that aren't included in the film are typically the best parts of the book!

I saw A Wrinkle in Time in the theatre and have no intention of reading the book at this time. I want to read it, but I can't because I've already seen the movie.

First, watch the movie.

If you watch it first, you will not notice that the film is not an exact replica of the book. The missed information will go unnoticed by you. If you read the book first, your movie experience will be either fantastic or disappointing. Either the director does a fantastic job or a horrible job.

According to Quora, if you haven't read the book, you are more likely to appreciate the film, too. "That is inaccurate" or "How is that different from the book?" are unlikely to come to mind when watching the film for the first time. It's a spoiler to read the book first. You're aware of what's going on. Certain details are subject to change. However, you keep the central idea, which detracts from the overall effect.

So, should I start by reading the book or viewing the movie?

Well... It's completely subjective. Would you want to see it on a screen or in your mind's eye? Consider this question and decide for yourself which choice is the best. Furthermore, it is dependent on the text. Some people say that you should read Harry Potter before seeing the movie, while others believe that the movies are better since you can see the tale unfold in front of your eyes. It depends largely on the book (or film) and the person reading or watching it.
