Time is the epicentre of all human activities. And while we, children, do not pay attention to it, our parents do. I realised this on the day my teacher, Ms Rosy, forgot to wear her shoes to school.
When I entered the classroom at 8 a.m., Ms Rosy was sitting at her desk. It wasn’t until she stood up and walked around her desk to greet us that we saw it. Ms Rosy had forgotten to wear her shoes! We all saw it at the same time. But Parth was the only one who pointed it out to her.
It took her several minutes to grasp his point. “That,” she said, “kids, is why you should never stay up at night.”
She explained that she had stayed up late at night. It was only after midnight that she realised she was late to bed. In her haste to get as much sleep as possible, she did not set the alarm. She was late waking up.
By the time she finished talking, the class had burst into laughter. Perhaps it was this story that made me realise the importance of time. Ms Rosy had stayed up for one extra hour. We, as children, do not understand the importance of time because our parents ensure we get everywhere on time.
FAQ
-
Why did you not point out the missing shoes?
I didn’t point out the missing shoes because I wasn’t sure what was happening. I was surprised that the teacher would come to school with missing shoes. This had never happened before.
-
How did this make you realise the importance of time?
She stayed up for only one hour. But because of that one hour, she did complete her morning routine. She had to rush to school and forgot her shoes. This wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t stayed up.

Why do children enjoy staying up late at night?
Children enjoy staying up late because they are never allowed to. There is little they would do if they could. But because parents don’t let their children stay up, it becomes a forbidden thing. As a result, they desire it more.

What would you do if you forgot your shoes?
If I forgot my shoes, I would laugh and apologise to my teachers. Then, I would try to borrow a pair from my friend or even go back home. I hope they will lend it to me!
