Subject: Rising Traffic Congestion in the City

Sir/Madam,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to express concern over the increasing traffic congestion in our city. The number of vehicles on roads has increased rapidly, causing long traffic jams, pollution, and frequent accidents.

People waste a lot of time stuck in traffic every day. Rash driving and improper parking worsen the situation further. Immediate steps should be taken to improve public transport, widen roads, and encourage carpooling. Strict traffic rules should also be enforced.

I hope the concerned authorities will take necessary action soon.

Yours sincerely,
Riya

The Importance of Time Management for Students

Time management is one of the most important skills for students. Proper management of time helps students complete their studies efficiently and reduces stress during examinations.

Students who follow a timetable can balance academics, hobbies, and rest effectively. It also improves concentration and productivity. Completing tasks on time develops discipline and confidence.

Poor time management often leads to anxiety and poor performance. Therefore, students should set goals, avoid distractions, and prioritise important tasks. Even a few hours of organised study every day can bring excellent results.

In conclusion, time management plays a major role in helping students achieve success in both academics and personal life.

1. Anne Frank considered her diary to be her closest friend and confidante. She could share her thoughts, fears, emotions, and experiences freely in it because she did not have anyone with whom she could talk openly. Living in hiding during the war made her feel lonely and isolated. Writing in the diary gave her comfort and emotional support. She named her diary ‘Kitty’ because she treated it like a real friend who would patiently listen to all her feelings and secrets. The diary became an important part of her life and helped her express herself honestly.

2. Mme Loisel was a beautiful young woman who was dissatisfied with her simple middle-class life. She always dreamed of luxury, wealth, expensive clothes, and a high social status. She was ambitious and cared greatly about appearances. When she received an invitation to the party, she became upset because she did not have suitable jewellery to wear. After borrowing a necklace from her friend, she lost it and spent many years repaying the debt caused by replacing it. Her suffering taught her the importance of honesty and contentment. Mme Loisel’s character reflects vanity, pride, and later, maturity through hardship.

3. The postmaster was deeply moved by Lencho’s faith in God after reading his letter asking for money to save his crops. To keep Lencho’s faith alive, he decided to help him. He contributed part of his salary and requested other post office employees to donate money as well. Together, they collected some money and mailed it to Lencho in an envelope signed as “God.” Their actions reveal that they were kind, generous, sympathetic, and helpful people. They showed humanity and compassion by helping a poor farmer even though they themselves were not very rich.

Q12 Answers

1. In “From the Diary of Anne Frank,” education plays an important role in shaping Anne’s personality and thoughts. Anne was intelligent, curious, and eager to learn new things. Even while living in hiding during the war, she continued studying because she believed education would help her build a better future. Education gave her confidence to express her opinions clearly and think independently. Through reading and writing, Anne developed maturity and self-awareness. Her diary entries reflect her deep understanding of human nature and society.

Education also gave her emotional strength and hope during difficult times. Thus, the chapter shows that education not only provides knowledge but also gives people confidence, freedom of thought, and the ability to face challenges bravely.

2. In “The Necklace,” Guy de Maupassant shows how greed and dissatisfaction can destroy happiness. Mme Loisel was unhappy with her simple middle-class life because she constantly dreamed of luxury, wealth, and high social status. Although she had a caring husband and a comfortable home, she was never satisfied. Her desire to appear rich at the party made her borrow an expensive necklace from her friend. Unfortunately, she lost it and spent ten years working hard to repay the huge debt taken to replace it. In the end, she discovered that the original necklace was fake. Her unnecessary greed and desire for luxury caused years of suffering, proving that dissatisfaction often leads to misery and regret.
