Exercise No. 1 

(Biography of APJ Abdul Kalam)  
APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. In 1954, he completed his studies in Physics at St. Joseph’s College. In 1960, he graduated in Aeronautical Engineering and joined DRDO. In 1969, he joined ISRO and worked on India’s first satellite launch vehicle. In 1980, he helped launch India’s first satellite, Rohini, into space. In 1998, he played a key role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests. In 2002, he became the 11th President of India, known as the “People’s President.” He passed away on 27 July 2015 while giving a lecture at IIM Shillong.

(Biography of Kalpana Chawla)  
Kalpana Chawla was born in Haryana, India. As a child, she was curious and loved school. She was interested in flying and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. She studied hard and learned about space, rockets, and flying. Her dream came true when she joined NASA and became an astronaut. She flew on a space shuttle mission and became the first Indian woman in space. Her success inspired millions of people.

(Biography of Rabindranath Tagore)  
Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Kolkata, India. He belonged to the well-known Tagore family, which encouraged music, art, and learning. As a child, Tagore was taught at home by tutors, and he showed a deep love for reading and writing. He wrote his first poem at the age of 8 and published his first collection when he was 17 years old. Tagore later traveled to England and other countries, where he shared his ideas about education and creativity. In 1913, he became the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for his famous work Gitanjali. He also wrote the national anthem of India, Jana Gana Mana, and contributed greatly to Bengali literature. Tagore founded the school Santiniketan, which later became the university Visva-Bharati. Throughout his life, he worked to promote education, peace, and imagination. Even today, Rabindranath Tagore is remembered as a great poet and thinker.

(Biography of Rani Lakshmibai)  
Rani Lakshmibai was born in 1828 in Varanasi. As a child, she was brave and learned horse riding and sword fighting. She showed great courage during the revolt of 1857. She fought against the British with determination and became a symbol of bravery in Indian history. Her role in history is remembered as one of the greatest examples of courage and patriotism.

Wangari Maathai was born in Kenya. She worked to protect the environment and make the Earth healthier. She started the Green Belt Movement, which planted millions of trees.
