Reading Passage: The Clever Jackal
One summer afternoon, a thirsty jackal roamed near a busy Indian village. He searched for water but found only a big metal drum outside a workshop. Curious, he peeped inside and saw his reflection shining in the water. Just then, a group of dogs spotted him and started barking loudly. The jackal panicked and jumped into the drum to hide. The water splashed and made his fur shiny and blue from the paint mixed inside. When the dogs ran away, he climbed out. The village children saw the strange blue animal and screamed, “A ghost animal!” The clever jackal smiled and decided to use this fear to his advantage. He walked proudly through the forest, and all the animals bowed to him, thinking he was a magical creature. For a few days, he enjoyed being the ‘Blue King.’ But one rainy night, the paint washed away, and the animals saw he was just a jackal. They chased him out, and the jackal learnt that false pride never lasts.
