Pattern Play with Letters: Alphabet Pattern Practice for KG

    This KG worksheet introduces children to simple alphabet patterns such as ABA, ABC, ABAB, and repeated-letter sequences. On page 3, learners complete patterns like A B A B A __, C A C A C __, B C B C B __, P Q R P Q __, and more using a letter bank.

    Children then strengthen logical reasoning with True/False pattern-identification tasks such as “A B A repeats A then B then A” and “A B C A B is an ABC pattern” (page 4).
Multiple-choice questions on pages 5–6 help children select the next letter in both simple and slightly advanced alphabet patterns, including repeating patterns, alternating sequences, and ABC progressions.

Finally, the writing activity on pages 7–8 allows children to create their own patterns following models like ABA, XXX, PPQQR, STU, UVU, BCA, JKLJ, EEF, ABCD, and RRRS.
This encourages creative thinking, sequencing ability, and recognition of alphabet order.

    Why Alphabet Patterns Matter?

    Recognising patterns helps children:
    1. Strengthen sequencing and prediction skills.
    2. Understand alphabetical order more clearly.
    3. Build analytical and early math-thinking skills.
    4. Improve attention to detail through repeated patterns.

     What’s Inside This Worksheet?

🧠 Exercise 1 – Fill in the Missing Pattern Letter
Children complete alphabet patterns using letter banks (page 3).

    ✏️ Exercise 2 – True or False
Learners analyse alphabet pattern statements and decide whether they match the pattern rules (page 4).

    📘 Exercise 3 – Multiple Choice
Children choose the correct next letter in patterns such as ABCAB_, DDDDD_, OP OPO_, and IJKIJ_ (pages 5–6).

    📝 Exercise 4 – Pattern Writing
Students create their own patterns following types like ABA, XXX, STU, PPQQR, UVU, BCA, JKLJ, EEF, ABCD, and RRRS (pages 7–8).

This worksheet strengthens early logical reasoning, boosts alphabet familiarity, and prepares learners for sequencing tasks across subjects.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Patterns strengthen sequencing, prediction, and early alphabet recall.

They may not fully memorise letter order; pattern repetition builds confidence.

Using A–B–A or A–B–C blocks helps kids visually extend sequences.
