From pizza peculiarities to nutella obsessions: Inside the world of a Fussy Eater!

Your Brother Is a Fussy Eater

When it comes to food, everybody has different choices. Usually, it is the younger members of the family who have weird food choices. In my family, my younger brother is always complaining about the food prepared at home. Even while eating at a restaurant, he takes a long time to decide what to order for himself. And he does not like my parents ordering for him. I must say, my brother is a fussy eater.

This creates many difficult situations at home. While he is already ten years old, he is still picking at his food like a baby. Sometimes, he will throw a fit over the irregular shape of a chapati. At other times, he complains about the colour of the gravies – too red, too yellow, too green. He hates any vegetable that is dark in colour, like brinjals, beetroot, or even the darker varieties of carrots. I sometimes feel that he has an obsessive streak.

The hilarious part is that he does not like the food items on his plate touching one another. I am five years older than him, but I don’t understand his tantrums. Mother says some children are just that way. However, I think his impatience with food that’s not to his liking is unhealthy.

My brother’s favourite dish happens to be pizza. The funny part is that he does not like any toppings on it – not even onions or tomatoes. At restaurants, we order a Margarita pizza for him, and he removes the only topping it has - tomatoes. Even with sandwiches, he removes all the stuffing and ends up eating only the bread. With pasta or noodles, his plate has a separate stack of vegetables he has picked out from his food – mushrooms, broccoli, even tomatoes. Mother has a difficult time getting him to eat his daily dose of fruits and veggies. She tries to make shakes and smoothies with fruits, but my brother doesn’t always have those.

A very weird food combination that my brother loves is chips and Nutella! Yes, he dips salty potato chips in Nutella and eats them. He loves orange juice but will never eat an orange. I think he is getting fussier by the day and irritating to those around him. I just hope he grows up to embrace some healthy eating habits. It is both troublesome and embarrassing to have him at the same table as yours.
