Suggest: Are Hospitals a Better Option for Drug Abusers than Prisons?
Drug addiction is a complicated mental illness that many people suffer from. Drugs are dangerous substances that people misuse in the name of having fun. Many of these people become dependent on these drugs and lose control over other aspects of their life – like their jobs, studies, and relationships. They have toxic and long-term physical and mental effects. Drugs are illegal, and addicts are put in jail to scare them into staying away from these harmful substances.
Is this the right way of approaching society’s drug problem?
The Drawbacks Of Imprisonment
The majority of drug addicts have issues like depression, anxiety, loneliness, and self-hatred. They usually do not have the support of their family and friends to help them through these problems. So, they turn to bad habits. Putting them in prison may get them off the drugs while they are there, but there is no guarantee that they will not go back to their bad habits when they get out. It can plunge them deeper into their problems by removing the little bit of support and love that they do have in their life.
