Tiny Tales Retold: Story Retelling Skills for KG

This Grade KG worksheet helps young learners build early storytelling and reading comprehension skills through simple picture-supported stories. Children read two short passages—“The Lost Puppy” and “The Rainy Umbrella Day”—and then complete activities that guide them to understand, recall, and retell stories in their own words.
The worksheet uses question–answer practice, picture sequencing, and beginning–middle–end identification to help children make sense of story structure in a fun and age-appropriate way.

Why Story Retelling Matters in Grammar?

Story retelling is an essential early-literacy skill because:
1. It teaches children how events happen in order (beginning → middle → end).
2. It develops sentence formation and expressive language.
3. It improves memory, vocabulary, and understanding of simple narrative text.
4. It encourages confident communication and prepares children for longer comprehension tasks.

What’s Inside This Worksheet?

This KG-friendly worksheet includes three engaging, skill-building activities:

🧠 Exercise 1 – Answer the Questions
Children read “The Lost Puppy” and answer simple comprehension questions such as who was in the story, what Rohan lost, where he found the puppy, and how he felt at the end. This strengthens recall and understanding of key story details.

✏️ Exercise 2 – Retell the Story Using Pictures
Children look at a set of pictures showing a boy losing a puppy, searching for it, and happily finding it again. They rewrite the story in their own words, helping them practise sequencing and creative retelling.

📋 Exercise 3 – Identify Beginning, Middle, and End
Based on “The Rainy Umbrella Day,” children choose which event happened first, which event is in the middle, and which event is the ending. This introduces narrative structure in a simple and visual way.
