Real Stories, Real Facts: Nonfiction Writing Skills for Class 5

This Class 5 nonfiction writing worksheet helps students understand how to write about real events, experiences, and facts clearly and accurately. Unlike fictional stories, nonfiction writing focuses on true incidents, logical sequencing, and factual details. Through scaffolded activities spread across multiple pages, learners practise identifying nonfiction narratives, expanding real moments, sequencing events, and writing both nonfiction stories and informational paragraphs.

The worksheet begins by helping students distinguish between fiction and nonfiction (page 3), followed by sentence expansion for clarity and detail (page 4). Students then arrange real-life events in logical order (page 5), write a short nonfiction narrative based on personal experience (page 6), and finally create an informational paragraph using facts and examples (page 7).

    Students learn to:

    • Identify whether a text is fiction or nonfiction
    • Expand simple sentences with details and clarity
    • Sequence real events logically
    • Write a nonfiction narrative based on personal experience
    • Write an informational paragraph using facts and examples

This worksheet builds strong writing foundations by blending narrative skills with factual accuracy—an essential skill for academic writing in higher grades.
